External Transfers

What are External Transfers

An external transfer allows you to move money electronically between your accounts at other financial institutions to and from your Stockman Bank checking, savings and money market accounts.

Associated Risks and Your Responsibility

External transfers are easy, save time and eliminate the need for checks.  While you enjoy the speed and convenience external transfers offer, fraudsters also find them an appealing target.  Should you choose to use external transfers, it is your responsibility to be aware and vigilant in protecting your account information and safeguarding access to your accounts.

How to Protect Yourself

As account-takeover fraud continues to grow, there are steps you can take to protect yourself. When it comes to confidential information, you are the first and best line of defense. You have the power to control the information you wish to share.

  • Don’t fall for fraudulent texts, emails and phone calls that appear to be from your bank. The typical hook is a sense of urgency: Your account has been compromised and you need to take action, fast. Don’t click on any links and don’t provide any information about yourself or your account.  At Stockman Bank, we will never send you an email, a text or call you and ask for your account information. If you are unsure the message is legitimate, call your bank or the number on the back of your credit or debit cards.
  • Protect your account information. Never give out your User Name, passwords, or account numbers.
  • Secure your computer. Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall Software provide protection against malicious programs and information that may be embedded in websites, emails, or documents. Always maintain current versions and updates offered by the software provider.
  • Take advantage of extra protection. Use two-factor authentication which requires not just a password, but a secondary point of ID – usually a code sent by text or email. To access your account, a fraudster would need to compromise more than your bank login details.
  • Set up Alerts. The faster you spot a potential problem, the more quickly you can cut off unauthorized access to your accounts.
  • Monitor your accounts. Don’t wait for your monthly statement to show up. Use online/mobile banking to regularly check your accounts.
